Well said! I agree completely.His father did sacrifice himself for the sake of his children and his wife. In the end he is consumed by the very thing that gave his family life. I think he was consumed long before his death though and dying in a physical way was just the final step.

Great job. I love your thoughts on the intertextuality between Ham Peggoty and the father. The idea that the father killed himself to better his sons life is a tragic one but now that I think about it very plausible.
