Yup, that makes sense. I've been knitting all day today and it's STILL not long enough so I suppose it'd be stupid to start a new one.
I've never been to the cinema on my own before. It was kind of scary but also so nice to be able to just watch the film without having to worry about anyone else. I think I'll do it again one day.
I'd be inclined to say you should keep going on the wide-striped scarf. Much, much easier (particularly for a novice/inexperienced knitter!) so you'll get on faster than if you're constantly trying to count - "30 rows red, 4 rows yellow, 6 rows red, 4 rows yellow...." (or whatever). And there are so many different fannish versions around anyway!
Good thinking. Even though the thin striped one that I started is thinner than the fat striped one, I'll be there forever with all the colour changing since I'm so bloody slow at it. I hope I get at least one of them finished in time after all this!
I always felt that the second scarf (PoA one and later) was the more accurate (to me anyway) so that was the one I tried to knit. I say 'tried' becuase MY GOD the bastarding thing took forever and by the night of the launch it wasn't long enough!!! Turns out that nobody told me that it gets wider as you knit it, so don't use too many stitches when you start off. But the people I was with that night said it was really cool anyway so I suppose that's something and I'm now going to stop knitting for 18 hours a day and take it easy so that it's ready by winter and then I can swan about in it like a sad person round campus :P
I ended up making both, but I had exactly the same problem. The first one I made was ridiculously wide and took me like ten minutes to do a row, so w hen I made the second one, which was POA, I did it half the width so it was better, but they were no where near long enough. We just sort of pinned them at our necks to make them look longer and then pulled faces at people who had scarves down to the floor :D
