After your piece is healed, always put sunblock on it (if exposed to the sun). Sun is the enemy of a tattoo. Black fades, color fades, lines dull. 8000 SPF is your tattoo's new buddy. Learn to love the smell of coconut.

An autoclave is basically a pressure cooker type of device that is used to sterilize equipment.
