I was posting on my curlyhair board when someone wrote, "I am mulatto" and asked her question about her hair. (Hello, my name is Ro and I am currently obsessed with my hair.) I always learn interesting things from you.
I never knew anything about the origin of that word, but it always bothered me when people used it to describe Sophia.
Frankly, she's just my kid to me, my beautiful little girl, and it bothers me when people try to classify her at all. *sigh*.
Now I have something I can say about it when people try to call her that.

now that I read that back, I realize I should clarify that I am proud of who Sophia is and her heritage and I want her to be, too. I just hate it when people use words like THAT.

To the author - wake up this is 2007 and a new Mulatto nation has arisen. The only place on earth where Mulatto had a negative connotation was in the United States. In the rest of the world the term has always had a positive connotation - VERY POSITIVE. I assume you never knew this because you think that the United States IS the world. You never knew the Cuban worship of Mulattos. You never knew about the proud German Afrodeutschfrauen. You never knew about the beloved Dutch halfbloetjes. Like most Americans, your knowledge was confined to your small American world.

Clueless Americans....as usual.
