May 14, 2008 20:23

Last week I went to see a nephrologist for the first time in ten years.  I had a kidney transplant seventeen years ago and attend clinic regularly (every year), but have not actually seen a specialist for a decade.  I've also been experiencing fatigue, sore joints, anemia and a wobbly blood sugar.  These are side effects of my meds.

Um, wow, that's incredible. I never knew you had a kidney transplant and upon reading this story... well, I kind of choked up. In a good way, that is.

I got choked up too, when I was at the doctor. I think I've had my kidney so long and everything's been so stable that it's just part of my life. Even my aunt, when I told her the news, said that when she thought about it she never speaks of me as her "niece who had the transplant" and her younger son, who's twenty didn't even know I'd had a transplant, because it just hasn't come up in conversation since he was a very small child!

::hugs you::

I can *so* understand you being nervous about cutting back on the immunosuppressant. And I'm sure it's *totally* normal for you to have been so nervous and tense about it. I'm confident the blood test results will be just as perfect next week.

::hugs::

And extra-special blessings to your donor and his family for giving you your life out of their tragedy!

You have no idea how nervous I was! I'm now on my fourth cortisone-free day and I feel fine! :) I feel a bit nervous about those blood tests though... Objectively I am also sure they'll be fine.

My donor's family's generosity and courage really deserve extra-special blessings.

Love your icon, Luci! I remember the SVU ep, but the whole way through that ep I kept thinking, "Does Cragen know who he's hired? Omagine what they could do to Precinct 16 - Look what they did to Oz!"

Thanks for congrats, good wishes and hugs! I'll let you know what the blood tests say!
