There was a request over at
icon_tutorial for a tutorial on
this banner by
shotgloss. I made banners of the MCR guys using those pictures [Blender shoot], and came up with a coloring similar to the one used in the banner.
Here's the tutorial for
this coloring. :]
It's a bit different than my banners in my last batch to look more like
deathbydarling's banner.
Made in Photoshop 7 and involves Selective Coloring.
Step
.01:
Get a picture, crop, resize, etc. :] Base preparation is always step one. ^^
I just sharpened the image once, and did some editing to his eyes. <3
Step
.02:
Duplicate your base once and set this layer to screen at 56% opacity.
Step
.03:
Duplicate your base again and set it to screen again at 100% opacity. On the same layer, go to 'Image >> Adjustments >> Hue/Saturation' and up the saturation to around 50%.
Step
.04:
Make a new layer and fill it with #00C1EB. Set this layer to Soft Light at 100% opacity.
Step
.05:
Make new layer and fill it with #F18563. Set this layer to Color Burn at 30% opacity.
Step
.06:
Make a new layer and fill it with #006EB1. Set this layer to Soft Light at 100% opacity.
Step
.07:
Make a new Curves layer with these settings:
Red- 64, 70 ; 119, 132 ; 175, 204
Green- 194, 181 ; 136, 101 ; 68, 49
Blue- 59, 48 ; 188, 188
*Each set of numbers divided by a semicolon [;] represents one pair of input/output numbers [input#, output#].
Step
.08:
Make a new Selective Color adjustment layer with these settings:
Reds: -59, -10, -5
Yellows: +100, -33, -23
Cyans: -35, -30, -48
Magentas: +100, -30, +12
Neutrals: +5, +10, +11, -10
Step
.09:
Make a new Selective Color adjustment layer with these settings:
Reds: -100, -39, +18, +10
Yellows: -100, +100, +49, +13
Cyans: 0, 0, 0, +20
Blues: 0, 0, 0, +20
Magentas: +42, -12, +6
Whites: -25, -3, -16
Neutrals: 0, -7, -31, +10
Step
.010:
Make a new Selective Color adjustment layer with these settings:
Reds: +100, +28, +27, +10
Yellows: +100, +100, -100
Cyans: 0, 0, 0, +40
Blues: 0, 0, 0, +30

.011:

Make a new Hue/Saturation adjustment layer and up the saturation to +22.
Step
.013:
Make a Brightness/Contrast adjustment layer. Up the brightness and contrast both to +5.
And you're done!
I got pretty close to
this coloring, mine is just a bit more red.
Of course, this won't look exactly like mine on each picture. Just experiment around with different settings and see what looks best. :]
Please do NOT take any of the images I used in this tutorial. I'd love to see what you make using my tutorial!
