new in mouthland

Feb 11, 2008 10:07

I went to the dentist today for the first time in 8 years. No new cavities but I'm going to get some fillings replaced. Also, one of my wisdom teeth is SIDEWAYS. Weird.

I had radiation, flourescent light and lasers in my mouth today. Technology has advanced since the year 2000.

I have only one wisdom tooth and it is sideways as well! I have to find a dentist I like that isn't pushing to do "procedures" that are unneeded just to put more money in their pockets. I find that dentistry in North America has this money-grubbing mentality.

I think it has been 5 years since my last visit and it is for that reason I didn't go back. The dentist started talking about "capping" this and that even though I didn't have one cavity and there was nothing wrong with my teeth. Fucking greedy capitalist bastards.

where I come from... one can always refuse "procedures"... and look for other "alternatives". but where I come from... dentists usually went to school with my Nana, or my mother and her siblings... so they tended to be less greedy... maybe. :)

Yeah, they can be. Luckily I have insuraqnce now so it's not as pricy. I don't mind getting my fillings replaced because they are very old. They counselled me to get my wisdom teeth out, but we'll wait and see.

I don't think they're total capitalist bastards because they didn't push me to get braces. "Only if medically necessary," I said, and they left it at that.

Why did they put lasers in your mouth?

I had two wisdom teeth which fell out on their own when I was 19... the other two... never came down... in fact, they never existed. I'm only 1/2 as wise as I should have ever been.

Yeah... I'm 26 and they still haven't come in. It was neat to see the X-ray to know they exist under the surface.

The hygenist and dentist both seemed amused that I still have some baby teeth. So I'm probably a lot less wise than you! :(
