Title: Maybe Later
Rating: PG
Characters: Ritter and Emilia
A/N: From a prompt from the lovely
dolevalan. 10 min. prompt: "maybe you still love me, maybe you just need some time alone". Unspellchecked. Rusty! Doom.
"Come in."
Ritter exhaled softly, hand dropping from the half-cracked open door frame. Bloody woman... Always seemed to see him coming.
As he stepped in, he caught Emilia folding up a paper and slipping it back into its envelope. He almost started to address it, but instead turned to shut the door behind him. "Hello, Emi."
She turned her head towards him just enough to give him her profile. Brow, nose, lips... Those lips...
"Wilden. I hadn't expected you back so soon."
He couldn't tell if there was an accusation there or not, and so simply said, "The young lad was a bit under the weather and so his parents shortened the lesson." Not that he was particularly upset about it. He had no real problem with children, or with horses... unless one was putting them together at once. He didn't mind teaching - it was a "respectable" trade. Or at least, the beginnings of one. But it was... monotonous. And... rather aggravating at times. And... just... Not him. Not his life. Not what he was best at. What was he best at, again?
"Ah. Well, I hope the young lad gets better soon." That was a bit of a dig. Turning back to her desk, Emilia lifted her teacup, and then, perhaps finding it empty, set it gently down again.
"Would you like me to get you more tea?" Ritter took two steps in to the room.
"No." she replied without turning back again. Her shoulders were a graceful slope of controlled posture. "I let this one get cold."
He took one step back. "Alright then." A moment of silence stretched before he shook his head again. "I'll be back before dinner, then ."
"Yes." she replied. "I assumed you would."
The corner of his lips pulled back, but she wasn't looking at his expression. She wasn't looking at him at all, so it likely didn't matter. "Of course." He turned to open the door again. "...I'll see you two later."
She didn't reply.
