The Golden Compass

Saw the movie "The Golden Compass" on Friday, definitely saw the anti-religious elements in it that people have been shouting about. While the themes did indicate that the religion was supposed to be Christianity(made me think of Catholics), I don't recall them coming out and saying it specifically. I think I will be acquiring and reading the

It was indeed. Ms. Coulter was dark-haired in the book, but she was of such a piece with her golden monkey that I always imagined her as blonde.

The movie did leave out some major stuff, though. I was surprised. Lyra asks the wrong questions, sometimes, and it gets her in trouble--she asked what she could do to help Asriel, but didn't think for even an instant that she should have asked if he deserved her help, or if helping would be wise...

I will admit that for being a 12 year old she's got a decent head on her shoulders, but overly gung ho would seem to be right for that age. Though it does seem to clash with some of her other personality traits.
