Thoughts on Kaith

As mentioned in my last post, Kaith came on Saturday. I opened the box and the magic I'd hoped occur as it had when I got Murasaki didn't happen. When I pulled Murasaki's head out of the box, I INSTANTLY knew this was the right choice. With Kaith, it was more a case of, hmmm... okay, nice doll ( Read more... )

I've noticed that people who start with a blank doll have a difficult time "hearing" the character when presented with a painted doll, and vice-versa. I started with Anya, who came with (and still has) a default faceup. She also had a blonde wig, and while I've long since gotten rid of it, her hair color remains blonde when she's not shifting to something outrageous. Funny story, her character concept never had blonde hair. :p

Any time I have a blank doll, it only has a very vague concept until it achieves a faceup. Daphne had no more backstory than "She drives a car!" until Tygati did her face, and now she's just pouring her heart out to me.

As far as size, I think it's much the same -- what you start off with always has a special place. I started with a mini, and while I fully intend to have a range of sizes, if I have to pick one or two to go out with me I will probably always go for a mini. SD's are nice to snuggle, the Yo size I'm finding is fun to sit and fiddle with idly, but minis are always going to be my preference.

Well I don't have all of that problem with blank heads because these dolls are all characters of myself and my friends that have been written with. Kaith, Murasaki, Lian, Chen and Alex are all mine. Kiyam, Ka'leth and Ke'tchi are Kitty's. Ryce and Sin are J9's. Jonar is uh... that one girl I detest so much. I've finally blocked her from my mind! And Damien is Kaisanti's. (These are the dolls I have planned though Ka'leth and Ke'tchi are still waiting on their sculpts to be created. I have FAITH ( ... )

If you have to, you have to. Though I think the 'right' wig and eyes will help a lot.

Clothes too, but Kiyam is of the opinion that clothes are superfluous on Kaith. ;)

That's why I haven't wiped him yet. I really want to see him with this face up and the right hair and eyes before I do something as drastic as removing the face up. I think the face up he has will work once I get Kaith looking more like Kaith. Rather than making a whole wig to start off with, I'm thinking of making a turban with the appropriate amount of gold embroidery floss attached in the right places to create the hint of some hair up front and the tail of his braid until I can get his wig made. *dies just thinking about making wefts AND then a wig*

Well I believe Kaith thinks much the same of Kiyam btw.
