I got the postcard in the mail last week, made copies and handed it out to friends!! I will post this in my LJ too, if it's okay, so that they can be involved as well.
Thank you so much for organizing this. I've got over 100 cards so far, and I'll get my youth group kids to help sign them, in addition to the messages. Thanks for the reminder, too...I had forgotten to email our head youth leader to get that on the calendar. We'll see if we can get some more cards and send them out!
I have a question. What is the politically correct/gender neutral way to refer to military personnel in the Air Force? The only terms I've heard are airman and flyboy, but somehow I doubt the ladies would appreciate getting a letter addressed to an airman.
very good question. Actually they are not necessarily going to Air Force members specifically. So I would use "Dear Servicemember or Dear Hero" or simply leave out the "dear" and just start your message.
The pc term for Air Force would be Airmen, Army = Soldier, Navy = Seamen, Marines = Marine. Even though "men" is in the term they are gender neutral. :) Yes they did go a an AF base last year, but everything is joint service over there, so things like this are spread throughout all services. Last year they were delivered to the AF base, but then at least half of them were sent out to forward operating Army or Marines stations.
You'll be getting 200-250 cards from my school's College Republicans chapter--the response we had was overwhelming. Thank you for posting this at ilovemyairman.
I almost forgot to tell you that I sent a package of letters out. There weren't as many kids this year, so we didn't get as many signed, but I think we got somewhere around 50-75. (I didn't count.) I sent them out priority mail, and they *should* arrive on time. Then again, I forgot to take Christmas slow time into consideration. *oops*
No worries, I realized after posting that I should have included that. We all know each other by usernames on here. The return address reads C. L. Fuller, 'cause I'm too lazy to write out Christine or Clo. ;)

Thanks.
Though I'm still curious what the politically correct term would be. Hmm...
