Log:
Mamoru had to wonder, if only privately, what his grandfather would think of this special trip to escort a sixth grader the second half of the way to Cherrygrove City. An inefficient use of time and energy, most likely. Maybe he was right. But how could it be in any way conscionable to turn one's back on a crying girl who had no idea how to take care of herself? Was a few days of inefficiency such a terrible price? Mamoru couldn't believe that it was. Not when his biggest responsibility here was leveling up Pokémon in the hopes it would enable him to return home.
It was more than that, of course. The food he'd bought for her cost money. The time he was on the road meant time he couldn't be working for more money. He didn't expect the money to ever be repaid. The care of this young girl might well prove a mentally taxing endeavor. Still, he simply couldn't fathom the willful abandonment of a child.
He simply couldn't.
This latter half of the trail to Cherrygrove was highly familiar by now: his sixth time walking it. As per usual, his Togepi rode in his arms. Mamoru had given up on ever coaxing it into a Pokéball, and it still enjoyed exploring a little too much to be allowed to walk freely. The sun was nearly set, and so far no sign of Miyako. Hopefully, he would find her soon. There were any number of reasons to fail to meet at roughly the halfway mark, but when it was a young girl with little to nothing in the way of survival skills, the reasons to fail that were also cause to worry were too many for his comfort.
The Togepi had a rather more cheerful outlook on their journey, and chose that moment to express its typical cheer with a gleeful trill that carried down the path.
"Prrrriiiiiiiiii!"
