I learned of this Sunday night, but it happened about a month ago. My mom didn't want to tell me because she was afraid I'd freak out. She said after it happened she pulled over and sobbed. She hasn't had anything like this happen to her in forty years of driving.

Adam got me all set up with voice commands in my car, etc, for my GPS and Spotify and dismissing text messages. It's actually really easy to do with smartphones. Otherwise I get everything set up before I start driving and when I don't need GPS, I just put a book on CD on or listen to the radio.
Here in LA it's glaringly obvious who is looking at their phone, even going 65 MPH on the freeway. And when you pull up at an intersection, waiting for the light to change - everyone cranes their neck down to look at their phones in their laps, even for the 2-3 wait at the stoplight. It's really disturbing.
