Week sometime in March, Freida's room

If I am to best proceed with this matter, best I wait until she is alone, the Sluagh thinks to himself. He's waited patiently in the shadows until he sees Spindle leave. A few long slow heartbeats, and Vincent moves towards her door, trying to hold to his courage as he does so ( Read more... )

"Lord, honey! I barely had time to get my clothes back on..." When she sees Vincent, Freida's knuckles whiten around the edge of the door. Licking her lips with a tongue that suddenly seems too dry, she steps back, making way for the Sluagh. "Please don't mind the mess. I've been busy."

Vincent doesn't even bat on eye as he enters. "Not at all, Mrs. Shanks. I am most grateful for your receiving me un-announced."

The handsome sluagh stands there, ramrod straight with his hands behind his back. He gazes down at her with his burning emerald eyes. "I am here on a matter regarding affairs of the heart."

Freida turns quickly to the bed, straightening sheets and pillows to avoid his gaze. "Well, since you're perfectly aware I'm a missus, I suppose I shouldn't be too worried it's my heart your after. Who's the lucky lady?"

"Would you be so sure then? If you may permit me to say so, you are a lady of temperment and beauty. Your husband is most fortunate in his affections, as well as in yours." Even from where he stands, Vincent seems to loom over the Boggan.

"As lovely and as intelligent as you are, Mrs. Shanks, it is another who has attracted my attentions. And I believe I am at liberty to say, I seem to have gained hers in return."

He falls silent, a brief pause, before starting up again abruptly. "Have you met Miss Malinda? She is an Eshu here on campus."

"Oh, you know. A good date could make her putty in your hands."

Vincent thinks for a moment before nodding. "Ah. Yes. I understand."

Blink.

Blink.

"No, I do not believe I do after all." He shakes his head slowly. "Why would I wish her to be maleable? She is who she wishes to be. That is why I love her."

The word 'love' just sounds so... odd... coming from that handsome but stoney face. Imagine a cemetary statue saying such out of nowhere on the brightest of days when you would least expect something like that to happen.

Freida stares. And stares. Finally she shakes her head, smiling slightly. "Vince, honey--I think I finally know what I can give you some advice on. You need to spend some time in a library before you go on a date looking up modern slang. Not really malleable, you goober. Just all a-swoon. Now do you get what I mean?"

"Goober..." Vincent falls silent in thought and then declares, "Ah. Peanut. Perhaps I do understand now." There's no real clue on his face as to what he understands, but he does stand up from his sitting position. "And I am certainly no stranger to our library."

"You have done me a great service, Goodwife Shanks. If there is anything I can do in turn to show my gratitude...?" He lets the question trail off as he spread his hands outwards.

Freida's mouth opens but nothing comes out for an instant. "Uh... just let me know how it goes, and if you need any more help. Malinda's a nice girl. I'd like to see her happy."
