Mar 08, 2005 06:51

Horus pauses about 10 feet from the troll coach's office, before firming in his mind what he needs to do. Walking with purpose he approaches the open door and knocks on the door frame. "Sir, may I speak with you about a couple things?"

Gunthar nods, gesturing to the "normal"-sized chair opposite his troll-sized desk. "Sure, Horus. What's on your mind?"

Horus walks in, closes th edoor and sits in the chair, dropping his duffel bag on the floor.

"Several things, sir. I guess the first thing has to deal with a couple events of the past months. First with the shadow dragon at Kali's chrysalis, and then with these goons that nabbed Kat." Horus glances out into the gymnasium briefly. "I guess I'm feeling a bit ineffective fighting these things. Half the time I don't know what I can do to them. I don't have a magic sword I can thrust at it, and I don't have the benefits of cantrips. I mean, I can sing, I can drum, and I'm good at sports, but when it comes down to helping out when the chips are down, I sometimes feel like I'd be better off sitting in a corner somewhere with my thumb up my ass while the people with the magic swords and spells do the fighting."

"I guess I don't really know how my role as a Kinnain fits in to the scheme of things."

Gunthar can tell Horus has something else on his mind. Something that is definitely making him more anxious.

Sir Gunthar considers what Horus says for a number of minutes before he answers, "As for the fighting, have you thought about joining the archery or fencing clubs? Either one might give you a bit more ability in a combat situation. Kev - Sir Keighvyn, that is - is a good teacher." He pauses. "I've also heard that some students are trying to get a group together to practice more...eclectic...martial arts - you might try asking around."

He seems to think for a moment or two. "As for the other part of your question, would talking to another knowledgeable kinain help any? Julien," he corrects himself, "Lord Julien has a younger brother who's kinain - talking to Aaron might give you an idea of how some kinain have found their place in the scheme of things. I could give you his phone number if you like."

He seems like he'd like to ask if Horus has anything else on his mind, but doesn't want to intrude on the kinain's privacy.

Horus thinks for a moment. "I really don't see fencing as my bag. Archery, possibly. I may have to look into it. Now the martial arts would definitely be interesting. But as I can't really work with chimerical items, I don't know if I'll be effective. I don't know how receptive the administration here would be ro me walking around with a cold iron rod ( ... )
