In which there is self pity, a cockroach called Fred, and flu-medicine induced rambling...

Coming home, I'm beginning to realise, is more or less the worst part of going away. It's not that your parents are any less tolerant, or that your room is any smaller, or that your town is any more boring, it just feels like itYou know that things are bad when you're missing the cold showers you took over a drain in the floor, or the cockroach ( Read more... )

But he's so small! Roaches actually clean up dirt, you know. They're like little recycling units on legs.

She's right! And how do you think Sylvester feels about your genocidal impulses?!

It sounds like you had a really memorable experience in India! How cool. Coming home is always a bit rough, though, and especially in the circumstances you mentioned. I hope you feel better soon, and I'm glad you didn't have any lasting ill effects from the energy pills... (why did you have those again? Sorry, I know it's not my job or my business to nag you! ;-) )

I'm even missing being attacked by monkeys - an event which traumatised Relle the Aussie and required rabies shots.

EEEEK!!!!! o_O Did you have to get rabies shots too, or just Relle? My mother got savaged by a cat a few years ago and had to have them. For whoever got the shots, they know there are multiple shots in the series, right??

I will humour your insanity and promise to stay by your side in hospital if you get malaria. Or a brain tumour.Roaches don't cause either ( ... )

My genocidal impulses?! She's called The Roach Slayer for a reason. :) I don't mind them in small numbers, on the other side of the room, but it's a bit crazy if they're practically running over your feet every time you go to the loo.

India was awesome, yes, I hope I get to go back and see more someday. I'm feeling much better already thank you! (Oh, go ahead and nag, I enjoy it. :) I had the pills because I had a high temperature and wasn't thinking clearly. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.)

For whoever got the shots, they know there are multiple shots in the series, right??I was okay! Relle was savaged, and I think she knows there are multiple shots in the series, she's being advised by recommended doctors out there, so she's being well looked after. The story of how they dealt with it is pretty funny too - just after The Roach Slayer and I left, they took Relle to the hospital, ( ... )

Aww...
it can be really hard coming home.

I recommend Runemarks by Joanne Harris, and Otto and the Flying Twins by Charlotte Haptie.

Oh LOL. You didn't tell me the whole story about dear Fred. lol!

Books! I haven't read HOMW yet but Hebe got it. Temeraire wasn't in the library but the second one was, so i took that out. I read the first few pages and it's calling to me to read it but i'm going to try to actually read a series in order for once.

Henna looks fantastic.I like the goat the best!

Be strong Em! Wait for the first Temeraire book! I can't wait to hear what you think of all these books you're waiting to get out of the library.

Thank you! The goat was very sweet, and had very soft fur, and an adorable baa.

1) True Story: I saw the headline of this post and went "oh, yay, Mistful's posted!" And so I opened it. And then later in my f-list I saw another post by Mistful and I went "wow, that's a lot in one day." And then I got to this tab (I open all my f-list posts in separate tabs and then go through them) and went...OH IT'S RO, NOT MISTFUL. LAWLZ. :-b

oh WOW that henna is GORGEOUS. And I love the sleeper train story. And generally I'm super-incredibly jealous of you. Like wow.

and REST AND FLUIDS young lady, since I wasn't able to tell you when you first got sick. :-b

That made me smile. I'd love to see a post by Mistful on 'self pity, a cockroach called Fred and flu-medicine induced rambling'.

Thank you! The girl who did the henna was disturbingly practised for her age. I'm jealous of me of last week too. That bitch. She gets to go to all the cool places.

it's so hard to settle back to RL after An Adventure. How's it going this week?
It's been fun reading about your travels and seeing the pics :-)

We have the 5th Temaraire book coming out this week - Victory of Eagles. I think I'll be able to get it tomorrow. Have you read the latest Stravaganza book?

This week is going better, thanks Peggy. :) I'm catching up on all the reading I missed, which is always fun. Glad you enjoyed the posts - I'm hoping to have more next year.

What have you been up to Peggy?

I know! I'm excited about the next Temeraire book, but I think I'm going to have to wait a few more weeks for it. I don't think I've read the Stravaganza books - who's the author?

Mary Hoffman is the author. Both Alex and Mariah have read the series, and I've read the 1st 3 (they were published back in the day when I had time to read something other than Francis Lymond and Miles Vorkosigan stories).

She's actually a UK writer - http://www.stravaganza.co.uk/

it's a busy summer, as always. lots of babies, Mariah is learning to drive, lots of traveling, and we have an exchange student from Spain staying with us for the month of July, a girl from Asturias the same age as Mariah. very fun, but kind of crazy busy.
