Ok, so yesterday was Saturday, my first weekend day here in Graz. It was very nicely uneventful. I told you that I woke up super-early and that Jake came in at around 5 or so. Well, we watched part of a weird German movie on TV. There was an affair and a few cases of mistaken identity and a Japanese guy that looked around 20 that no one could find. It was pretty weird and we weren't completely sure what was going on, because we'd missed the beginning, but it was entertaining. After the movie ended, I came back to the room and slept for another three hours, so I woke up at 10. Thus began a very satisfyingly unfulfilling day.
I sat and did some of my homework for about an hour. I had to fill in some more verbs, this time in the opening page of Siddhartha (in the original German, of course). It was pretty standard, for the most part, but there are a few times that she says that they're verbs acting as nouns, but they're in places that *only* verbs are allowed to go in standard German. I don't know. I had some other things to fill in, too. Today, I'll have to write out a little speech suggesting a class activity around Graz. I got some brochures for free and cheap concerts and whatnot. Maybe we can go to the opera ^_^.
After lunch, it was about noon, so I was going to try to go to the bank, because I thought I remembered seeing that it closed at 1 on Saturdays, so I started to walk that way, and about the time I got to the end of the block I realized that I was just stupid and had misread my watch and it was actually 1:15 and so it was pointless. When I got back to the room and relayed it to Jake, he said that he thought that the banks weren't open at all on Saturdays, anyway, so whatever.
We then took advantage of the nice afternoon and went to the park down the street. It was a little chilly, but I had a jacket so it was okay. It was also pretty wet, since it had rained all day and night the day before. Still, we had a nice afternoon just sitting in the park and reading and whatnot. I took a dirty shirt to sit on, so I sat on the grass for a while anyway. Jake and Ana were both working on homework, but Pia and I just read.
After we got back, Rebecca showed up and the girls cooked some Hungarian dish that Ana wanted us to try. It was some sort of Potato-onion-tomato soup. It was really yummy. I may have to ask for a recipe or something so that I can cook you kids some next time I see you. Then, we cleaned up. Dishes were washed, the tiny bit of food was put away, and we got ready to go out.
We went out to meet with some of the kids from Rebecca and Ana's class. We just kind of met up downtown at the Schlossberg, which is a sort of landmark here in town. The archaic story that I had to write a summary over (I mentioned this for Thursday) was about how the Schlossberg supposedly came to be. Lots of people had stuff to drink, and we just kind of milled about for a while. Some of the kids went to a bar, but most didn't, because they were planning on going to a club before 11 (when the cover charge went up). I stayed with them and chatted and met some people, but I left before they went to the club. I'm still not up for pulling those all-nighters that the other kids have been doing. I fell asleep at about one, but Jake said that he didn't get back until 5. I mean, that's the kind of schedule I kept at home, but I'm not ready to do that here, yet. Jet lag is ending, though. It gets later and later.
Anyway, I think that's about all for Saturday. Now, I need to go work on my homework, because otherwise I'll forget and not do it at all, which would be bad.
