Okay so Sunday was a pretty lazy day. I managed to finally stay up and sleep in, so go me! … wait, wow. It's crazy that I consider sleeping until 8:30 “sleeping in”. It's kind of funny, really. Anyway, I got up at 8:30 and managed to do an amazing amount of nothing. I didn't go anywhere and I didn't do anything special. I just messed around on the computer, really. I spent quite a bit of time working on homework, too. I had to write a suggestion about an activity or something that we could do as a class or whatever. I suggested that we go to the Opera.
I know that the Opera probably won't be the first choice of activities for a group of twenty-somethings, but maybe there'll be more interest here than there would have been back home, at least. Also, I'm really not wanting a group excursion to the opera, anyway. It's not really much of a group activity, if you ask me. However, seeing as I'm in Europe, it seems a good time to do it, so I'll definitely be going while I'm here. Anyway, I wrote out all about how the opera can actually be pretty nice and that most people have a misconception about it being all about a fat lady that screeches out some high note for five minutes and breaks all of the glass in the building.
I was about halfway done with the whole thing (it wasn't supposed to be very long) before I realised that the opera I was suggesting that we go to was seven hours long. Yeah. I should have known, because it's Wagner. 15:00-22:00. Way to waste away a Saturday, eh? No. Unfortunately, it's the only opera that's in Graz in September, and our class thingy is only until the 23rd, so I don't want it to be something too late, and I was too far in to rewrite it. Oh well. They'll have to live with me suggesting a 7-hour opera. At least it's not like they actually have to do it or anything.
I also had some fun with our other writing assignment. Remember how I mentioned that I had to fill in some verbs from the first page of Siddhartha? Well, the other half of that assignment was that we had to continue the story for a few paragraphs or whatever. I was supposed to try to imitate Hesse's style and whatnot and continue on the story. I wrote about how Govinda and Siddhartha were sitting under a tree, in the shade, in the wind, on the grass. Siddhartha was staring at the grass, a small insect. He sighed. Govinda then said to him “Siddhartha, you look pensive today.” Siddhartha kept staring and sighed again. Definitely the most exciting stuff ever, no?
Yeah, so I think that that was about it for my Saturday. I don't think that my video gaming was particularly exciting. I pretty much played the entirety of Final Fantasy II (IV in Japan) again. I got all the way to the moon, which is where the final boss is, having done all of the side-quests that I know of. I have all of the secret summons, all of the best weapons (other than the ones on the moon on the path to the final boss) and all of the best items that one can get through normal means. That is, there are items that one can only get randomly and the chances of getting them are like, 1/65000.
No joke, there are four summons to get this way and one rare metal to make super-strong armor. I've played the game at least 10 times and I've never gotten any of them, and I've spent hours specifically trying to get some of them (because you can only get them from certain enemies). I would have thought that the armor thing was a joke, because you can only get them from one certain enemy by fighting them on one certain square in one room. However, said enemy only *exists* in that room on that square, and I've fought them. Unfortunately, you *then* have to hope that they drop the item, with about a 1/128 chance of them doing so. It's completely ridiculous.
First weekend over and nothing accomplished.
