past times

I've been unwell for a week or so, and my dreams were even wilder than usual! But better now. One thing I did, as I was recovering, was to re-read a book which I'm sure I've read before, and yet which I couldn't remember except for one paragraph towards the end. Yet this time, this book had quite an effect on me. For some reason it sparked such ( Read more... )

that's very insightful, you know; at every level. I think you're right about books. Although I read this one years ago, it was just a bit of fun - now it spoke to me much more deeply. I suffered from a crippling homesickness for many years - and while that's settled down, I know that there are still parts of me that feel somewhat lost and rootless. There's no need for it, now; just a bad mental habit. But all bad habits can be broken! xxx

Ah, "the things that nourish us, that we sometimes allow to drift away ..."

Yes.

Do you mind sharing the name of the book?

I do think we need these times of "unwellness", especially this time of year when the veil is thin between the living and the dead. It feels a potent time to me, a time for nourishment within and without.

It is a potent time, and I think you're right - it's like letting the fields lie fallow for a year, as we rotate the crops! The book? - haha - yes indeed; it's Terry Pratchett's 'Lords and Ladies'. Not thought of as any kind of heavyweight or philosophical book, but I do think that Pratchett actually manages to slip in so much philosophy within the humour, it's unbelievable. And why shouldn't we enjoy the lessons that books bring us? Laughter helps, eh? ;) Blessed Be xxx

Yes, I agree. I will order the book.

To laughter, potency, and lying fallow at times. :-)

Blessed Be.

thank you so much for your kindness, Jeff. I'm always glad when something I write strikes a few chords! Most of my stuff travels by word of mouth! xxx
