I didn't know you were on the MUD circuit. I used to run a MUSH-I keep bandying about the idea of starting it up again.
As for phones: Of course, company loyalty would have me recommend a Windows Mobile device and one of the Windows Mobile screen readers (not sure if Fido or Rogers carry any of those, or how married you are to Fido). On the positive side, that would give you things like MSN Messenger and MP3 playing capabilities on your phone. On the other hand, the technology's a trifle more expensive (I was perfectly happy with Symbian and TALKS when I was using that, but switched when my Nokia and my iPAQ stopped being on speaking terms). As for Mobile Speak (the Symbian side, not the Windows Mobile side), you may want to take it for a test drive, as last report was that it would occasionally not work with some functions on some phones (I couldn't browse the web using Mobile Speak and the Nokia 6670 (your mileage may vary)).
