After I got to the mountains, well into the detour, I stopped at an overlook. The fog and clouds were tucked into the folds of mountainside and the trees were all sorts of colors. I drove on and the fog got thicker. Soon it was all I could see. The mountain crowded the sides of the road, steep rock cliffs on either side ( Read more... )

My favorite part about the drive from here to Nashville is passing through the mountains.

I'm glad you made it safely! Thanks for having folks over last week. It was so great to see you before you left.

I am glad you got there safe and sound, hon! I know the detour was annoying, but it sounds like it was a very pretty drive regardless.

Miss you! Take care, and lots of luck on the job hunt and the rest of the move! *hugs*

Let me guess - somewhere along 26? That road has to be one of the hardest to not look off to the side all the time when driving along it - especially this time of year in peak leaf season. Glad you made it okay! :)

It was 26! About thirty miles south of Johnson City. That was an amazing drive. I'd never hit exactly peak leaf season - always a little before or a little after. What a treat!

Yep! I drove that way a lot when Robert was living in Johnson City. The first time (in my old car) I was afraid I wouldn't make it up and back down again! I don't if you noticed, but all of the road signs refer to it as "Future 26" - because apparently it is too curvy and too steeply graded to "officially" be a part of the federal highway system!
