This weekend I went to the Lucca Comic convention and returned with a bunch of new mangas...or should I say old mangas? I found the reprints of both Sailor Moon and Versailles no Bara ^__^
Hmm... Worth noting! I've been considering selling off all of the Sailor Moon cards I collected back in the day (most are straight from Japan), but it never seemed like the market was very good to do so. Perhaps with Sailor Moon being reintroduced to the market, it'll stir up more interest again.
This is one series I never got to finish. They refused to air beyond a certain season of the anime here, and the manga I had been getting from Tokyo Pop (way back when) decided they were going to cut Sailor Moon from the magazine to put it in a 'girly' manga collection that I REFUSED to buy. I liked Sailor Moon, but I didn't want that other garbage! So, I never got beyond the beginning of the manga.
...Sailor Moon had so little respect in the U.S. Meanwhile, Dragon Ball continues to be everywhere. XO
The anime didn't air completely? Why? They missed tons of money XD When I was little, the Sailor moon manga was sold one CHAPTER a month so buy all the 50+ volumes was hard...I can finally buy it now that is sold in normal tankobons
I can only imagine it had something to do with some things not being acceptable to air on U.S. television. I know the thought of men becoming women struck me as..very strange when I was younger... (Now, not so much, but still not something you see on t.v. here!) I imagine the series was a censor's nightmare just due to those super short skirts alone! ^_-;;;
I remember that they spread the manga series out for a while here as well, which is why I never bought them. I never had that much money! Now...I almost don't care... Kind of sad, but so it goes.
We had problems with Sailor Moon Stars too. That was resolved...changing the dub and making it sound like they weren't transforming but... calling their twin sisters with which they shared a star seed *headdesk*
To be honest, the Starlights are always women in the manga (they just cross dress as men)...and Seya is still in love with Usagi...I don't know what would have been worse for american and italian censors XD
I heard about the license unfreeze a few months back, so I'm really, really hoping the newly launched U.S. Kodansha imprint will release the series. I had all of the original TP translation for a time, but traded it in for the original Japanese.
I adore manga Mamoru. Anime Mamoru I just want to take a plastic spork to.
They are testing small markets like Italy before re-launching it world wide...and it has been a great success here so I'm sure it will come back to the US ^_^ The first tankobon was sold out before it came out becaosue too many people were ordering it and they had to do a second reprint on the spot ^_^
i love versailles no bara!!! i haven't had the chance to really check out the manga except for some scans/pics around the internet but would love to see more! you found all the volumes?? i have all 41 anime episodes of it and love it to death!!! it is sooo amazing!!! have you seen the live action movie based off it??
There were all the volumes, but I just bought the first two (out of 8 + 2 specials) because I didn't want to spend so much money XD After seeing the reprint is so good, I'll buy the other ones Live action movie? *blinks* You mean the one with western actors?
I missed the recent musical showings in Rome D: too bad.
