annoying dental stuff

So I have dental HMO insurance at work, and I'm trying to find a dentist down here.  The problem is, our insurance is pretty damn crappy and hardly anyone takes it.. I have two cavities that need to get filled!  The only dentists in the Santa Monica area that accept my insurance all seem to have scary reviews on Yelp (like 20+ 1-star reviews about

When I was a kid we had to drive for over an hour to go to the dentist, mainly because that was the closest good dentist. It seems like an hour+ drive would be fine for a once in a while sort of thing to have someone qualified doing it.

Can you change to PPO for a month? I know on our insurance I can call and switch our dental plans monthly. Only catch is it applies for the next month, but there might be a decent dentist on the PPO- a little more $$, but something I would spend a little extra on. I have spent a pretty penny this year on dental-I feel your pain!

Hey, unfortunately we can only change from HMO/PPO or back once a year. I think I finally found someone that I'm gonna try. Thanks for your help!

I think a dentist that tries to upsell you is better than a plain bad dentist. At least you can turn down the extras. But yeah, I'd drive somewhere farther if there isn't a good dentist closer.

yeah unfortunately these guys seem to be bad AND up sell.. lol. fail. i think i found someone that won't suck too hard, though. we shall see!

I found one over in Torrance, I'm gonna go next month (insurance change doesn't take effect until Oct 1st). I think it's more promising, my friend recommended this one so *fingers crossed*!
