The Joy of Weekends

May 30, 2004 10:33

Does anyone else but me notice that the week after a long weekend, even though it's only 4 days, seems so much longer than a regular week? I thought Friday would never come but now I'm already on Sunday, the time just flies.

I had a busy week this week, full of meetings and junk at work but also at home. I had a candle party on Thursday night, and had an absolute blast.

Charming One, Shy Boy, Wicked, all came, Bubbly and Styles couldn't make it. Bubbly found out Tues afternoon she had to fly out at 5:00 am Wed morning for a survey up north. (As good of a friend that I am, I didn't volunteer to drive her to the airport for 4:00 am.....friendship only goes so far lol) Styles managed to pick up an extra shift at the Pride store and since he needs all the extra money he can get for his move I totally understanded.

My co-worker, I'll call her little chick (I feel like a mother hen with her, very protective of her even though she's about 18 years older than me) came with her daughter & her grandson (just 11 months old and a heartbreaker already). So with the candle lady there was a total of 8 of us (7 if you don't count the grandson) and we all had a wonderful time, my landlady even popped her head in for a bit and ordered something.

My candle lady is a major Flames fan so we wound up watching the 1st period of the game before she'd start the presentation (I was doing so well avoiding all the hockey crap here until then). But it wasn't too bad, made me think back to when I really followed hockey (early 90's) and the fun I had watching the games with friends. We lost on Thursday, but won on Saturday so who knows maybe only 2 more games and we've got the Stanley Cup back in our city for the 1st time in 15 years.

Now I grew up in a town in Saskatchewan (I know you're asking yourself where? and how do you pronounce that word? lol) anyways it was a town with a very big Ukranian population. So I was used to going a bit overboard on food whenever I prepare for a party. I thought I had made my usual overkill as far as the food goes.....nope. I guess my fruit and dip went over great because there was nothing left. If you ever want the easiest fruit dip in the world for fresh fruit (I'm partial to melon, pineapple, strawberries and sliced bananas and apples for dipping) just take a tub of cool whip and mix it with bottle of Kahlua (the mini bottles you get on airplanes). Very very easy and it tastes wonderful and everyone is so impressed then you tell them how easy it is. I had my usually spinach dip but I slice up a baguette for it rather than do the round loaf of bread and dig it out (I'm way to lazy for that) and cheese, sausage and crackers and to round it out the lime tostitos and salsa. My table at the end of the night looked like a plague of locusts had hit it, the only thing that survived was the chips and salsa and they had a good amount gone from them as well. Something about good food, good friends and great wine makes the night that much more enjoyable.

I didn't hit the pillow until really late but managed to get a couple of hours off work in the morning so I could sleep in the next day. I still relied heavily on my coffee Friday at work but made it through to go home and take a nap when I got home. After all it was movie night at Style's place and I knew we were going to have another late night. I did manage to sleep long enough to miss having enough time to eat supper before I went, thank god he's got a good Vietenamese restaurant around the corner that has wonderful food, spring rolls yum! It was just Styles, Bubbly and myself, poor Bubbly she got in around 1 in the morning from her survey, was supposed to be 10:30 that night but their flight got delayed. We had a nice night watching episodes of the British Queer as Folk and I finally figured out where I had seen the actor that plays Stuart before. He was Lord Rathborne (I think that was his name) in Shaghai Knights, why I didn't clue in earlier I'm not sure, he hasn't changed much since then. The shock I got was that young actor that plays Nathan was the British student in Undeclared, a cancelled sitcom from Fox that I used to love. I didn't recognise him or at least his face but I knew I had heard the voice before. I hate when you know you recognise a person in a movie or on tv from something but you can't remember what.......it drives me nuts. So we finally broke things up around 2 Friday night and after giving Bubbly a lift home it was almost 3 by the time I crawled into bed, thank god for Saturdays and being able to sleep in.

Didn't do much Sat, housework, groceries, general junk that you have to catch up on during the weekend. Bubbly is coming over today to watch some movies and veg out. She's flying out again tomorrow, this time for 2 weeks so we're just going to hang out and have fun today.

Off topic a bit, I did have a weekend of return of the ex's this weekend. One who I dated 7 years ago (and won't get the hint that we're never getting back together) wanted to go out for dinner or a movie or something this weekend, I told him I was too busy, which is true but even if I wasn't I try to give him as little encouragement as possible. The other was an ex that I remained very good friends with (we split because of distance not for any other reason, we live on opposite sides of the country). He had planned to surprise me with a trip to New York and a cruise for my vacation in August. Unfortunately I had already planned a road trip to the West Coast with my mom and driving down into the States as well for my vacation. I would have loved to see New York but I don't see much of my family since I moved to Calgary 2 1/2 years ago, and we had this planned before he told me about the trip. He may decide to come down for Stampede in July but that is a whole other story for a later time.

Hope everyone had a good weekend and for my friends in the States, I think this weekend is your long weekend so sleep in for me tomorrow would you?
