I believe you can get out of it because you are a primary caretaker for your child. This is one of legitimate reasons not to go. Did you tell this to them?

I got the summons in the mail last week. And I am on call starting this week. I simply did not have enough time to send them anything in the mail and get an answer. I will definitely tell them in person tomorrow.

It is usually written right on the summons that if you are the only caretaker, you don't have to serve.

On my summons it says that if I have a legitimate excuse (being the only caretaker is one of them) I can write a letter and ask for postponement or excuse. Since the summons arrived just a few days ago, I didn't have time to send them a letter.
I absolutely have to show up tomorrow.

If you didn't, bring her with you - they will let you go right away.

The problem is, I have to leave the house at 7:30 to get to the friggin place by 8. Natalia wakes up between 8:00 and 8:30. I can't imagine what she'll be like if I wake her up early in the morning and drag her to a courthouse. I am considering this option but it is not attractive at all. I think I'll go by myself tomorrow and tell them that I have a child and *threaten* to bring her with me if they don't let me go. :)

да кто его знает, вирус, наверное. с утра у нее начался насморк, я тихо надеялась, что это аллергия, а к вечеру поднялась температура :(

Везучая ты, однако. Я 13-ый год живу в Штатах, не знаю в (русском) окружении никого, кого бы вызывали. И на работе за пять лет никто не отпрашивался.

Ха! Меня вызывают каждый год, кроме двух случаев когда я таки сидела в присяжных - после этого меня вызывали через 2 года. %)

У меня муж посидел в жюри между свадьбой и свадебным путешествием :)
Меня, как ни странно, еще ни разу не вызывали.
