Is it common for residents of this place to fall asleep.... and not wake up for some time?

Yes, it's actually very common. I just woke up from one of those. It's called a sleep coma.

It varies. Usually at least a week, sometimes closer to a couple of months. If you have a friend in one right now, you don't need to worry. They'll wake up eventually. And at worst be a little disoriented that so much time has passed without them. You just need to see that they're somewhere safe and comfortable.
