In the middle of the sea, a small boat struggles to stay afloat as giant waves crash around it on all sides and rain pours from the sky in sheets. A small girl dressed in a white robe with a red diamond pattern clings to the side of the vessel, eyes shut tight with the effort of not being knocked overboard. An older woman, the girl's mother, almost identical in appearance and dress to her daughter, stumbles forward on the deck and grabs onto her child, making sure she is safe.
Cracking an eye open, the little girl looks up to the sky to see lightning and surges of energy engulfing a village on a cliff far in the distance. Obscured in the clouds above is a giant eye, looking down at the destruction that appears to be radiating from it. Buildings are leveled as she watches. Terrified, the child clings to her mother and cries, devastated by what's happening.
The boat jerks violently as another wave crashes against it. The mother and daughter pair are wrenched from their position and thrown against the other side of the ship. Knocking her head sharply on the wood, the girl feels her mother's grip slip and fall away. With her vision blurring in pain, blood, and rain, the girl watches as her mother is thrown away from her and lost in another wave of water.
The screams for her mother are lost in the howling wind.
[Dagger is still shouting when she wakes, throat dry from over two weeks of sleep. Clutching her head in pain from her nightmare, she stops yelling and tries to catch her breath, knocking her dreamberry to the floor in the process.]
