I want to go to Pipa Beach. I want to eat delicious Brazilian food. Dad and I will have to put it on our list of things to do. Too bad about all the gringos. And they sound like nice people which makes it nigh on to impossible to avoid them. I love the idea of eating lunch with a bunch of people in any language. Aunt Alixe and I always enjoyed the waves in Acapulco but I don't think we ever really got up on a board. I'm so glad you are having that experience.
sounds like you are surrounded by parasites ...

so now not only do you study the effects of parasites on people's livers, you are ingesting some with raw fish? I think there's a reason Brazi- (silent 'L') isn't known for sushi...

WRONG-O!
Brazil is known for both delicious seafood and a large Japanese population. The fish here is undoubtedly fresher than in Iowa City, and there may even be more Japanese people (not that I've seen any, but I haven't seen any in Iowa either).
