Good Friday to Ye

So, it's Good Friday. Hubby's got the day off, and we got a special church service tonite. I slept in like it was saturday and now we're silently 'not' debating what we're gonna have for lunch. Then I'm gonna go shopping for easter dresses and some other things. I've not cleaned anything today. I've read all my blogs instead. I figure I'll spend ( Read more... )

How to teach a dog to not jump on people:

1) Instruct people who come over to simply turn their back on Newton and plant themselves in spot until Newton calms down. Crossing arms and averting their eyes from Newton will also help reinforce this.

2) You and David do the same thing til Newton gets the hint.

3) Slightly more extreme measures include keeping Newton on a leash when you expect visitors, and giving her a correction tug the EXACT moment she goes to jump on the person, then telling her to sit.

4) Treat/reward her for correct actions everytime she does them for the first week of training, then start rewarding half the time, then randomly. Eventually she'll follow your commands without the reward.

5) Be consistant. Even if you both only work with her for 10 minutes a day everyday, do it. I guarantee 10 minutes a day will show results.

Hope this helps. :)

Buddy would scare the pizza delivery boys (the girls thought he was sweet) so we would have to crack open the door just enough to slip out and talk to the person outside. When friends came over, someone would have to drag him into another room and pretty much sit on him while people came in and were introduced.

Roxie, I have to just pick her up, carry her out to the back yard and then tie her up so she doesn't hide under the deck. But then, she's only about 6 months old and has only lived with us for a few weeks. So her fear/hyperness is somewhat understandable.
