There is no missing dollar. The room cost 25.
A+B+C=total room cost
A= 10 B =10 C=10
subtract one from each you have
27. But the room costs 25
Subtract -2 the bellboy has to have 25
Or think about it this way: If the total they had paid was 27, why would you add the bellboys $2 and not the $3 the men got back?

I kinda came up with the same "there was no missing dollar" answer but I wasn't sure.
