As people know, I received my ballot in the Labour Party leadership election and voted rather late, on the 14th, after a series of complaints, in the course of which I was told that a large batch had been meant to go out on 24th August and that there had been a glitch. This is deeply disturbing and Labour wonder why members like me who they lost over Iraq and the Kelly Affair have never bothered returning!

Another point is that the use of bots as suggested to trawl social media is fairly clearly going to cause problems under the Data Protection Act, in that it's processing likely to cause damage or distress, it's processing data and making decisions based on automated means, and it's gathering and processing user personal data without consent, and the fact that it's data consigned to social media doesn't matter for these purposes. I'd already had a run in with Andy Burnham's campaign about cold calling and it's more of the same.

The inconsistency of the automated damning reminds me of the SFWA takedown of Scribd, which caught a lot of innocent files in its trawls, a violation defended or excused by many who should have known better.

...Wow. Yep, your bot theory seems by far the most likely explanation and is just awful. And for the letter to say you've been denounced is hugely irresponsible - or worse. Cos if you want someone to leave the party, suspending them with the explanation that someone denounced them is a good way to do it.
