MS. FRIZZLE anonymous January 8 2011, 08:30:53 UTC
I've reviewed until episode 20, and I still want to roleplay her. Right now, I think the most difficult thing about her is that if I roleplay her anywhere, she'll be without her class. And the bus. I guess she can cartwheel around socializing, but Frizzle won't be the same if she doesn't have people to teach.

Er. I mean. A school game.

Okay, that really wasn't all that helpful advice so let me try again for a more general approach.

Of course, this will require you knowing some about science and about the world of the game you're playing in, but just because she's not in a classroom setting doesn't mean she can't teach. If anyone is wondering about the physics of the world they're trapped in (and I find that characters often do), have her extrapolate what could be causing certain things based on real-world science. Or if your game has children and no organized school system for them, have her organize a class on her own time.

Hmm, that's a good idea. I didn't think of her organizing a class on her own. Thanks! Another concern I have is that I've never seen Frizzle be angry or sad or anything besides enthusiastic or calm. I'm not sure how to develop her to a point where she allows herself to express other emotions, or if the perpetually calmness will make her a bit dull after a while, or what.

Personally, she strikes me as the sort of person who wouldn't get angry/sad on her own behalf easily. However, she would be more prone to doing so on the behalf of others, specifically her students. I just hit up Wikipedia just now to sorta refresh my memory, and under her character entry they mention, "During field trips whenever Ms. Frizzle and the class are in danger she doesn't get scared-in her words, she "ain't never scurred". In fact, the only time she is truly worried is when the bus or the rest of the class is in dire trouble."

I think that last bit is important. Because in the series she's got a fairly amicable group who're willing to go along with her wacky hijinks, but things might be different if she's got a kid who she knows is bright, knows can do great things, and in response to her going "Take chances! Make mistakes! Get messy!" says "No!" or "The last time I took a chance MY FATHER DIED GO AWAY!"

Basically, her getting students would be critical to keeping her from being one note and/or bland.

Hmm, true. I guess I'll review the rest of the series and see if I still want to play her after that. Thank you for your advice! Usually the only negative response she gets is from Arnold. And it's pretty weak/quiet negative response.
