Hehehehehe, he did that to us once in Language and Society in East Asia. By far my most favouritest lecturer.

That happened at least a couple times with Prof. Forrest, the chair of the Japanese department. He was late/forgot what time it was a few times after he lost his pocket watch that HIS LIFE DEPENDS ON. At the end of the semester we all chipped in to buy him a new watch.
