I think this is the year that I finally accepted that global warming is not just a future threat, but something that's happening right now. While Hurricane Irene might have freaked me out a little, I think it's this year's accumulation of unprecedented weather events, especially flooding, that is the handwriting on the wall.

I believe at least most of those examples of extreme weather are results of global warming. I also believe that humanity is a huge, lumbering machine which, once it's set in motion, is practically impossible to halt. I agree with you that while it may technically not be too late to reverse the course of global warming (by stopping the human activities that have been causing it), because of politics it is effectively impossible ( ... )
