recently they decided to remove reiserfs as a default from openSuSe after about 6 years. Rumors says that Han Reieser himself was in favor of moving to ext3 as a default instead of reieserFS; see also "OpenSUSE moving away from reiserfs with 10.2" in http://lwn.net/Articles/202780/

Jeff is right, pretty much.
Back in the day when reiser3 had a clear performance advantage in some situations, we looked at it, and it just wasn't responsible to hoist it upon users. It eats data.
