Disclaimer: I own nothing - was simply inspired by yarroway's Drabble Challenge and my own recent trip to Mammoth Cave in Kentucky.
Prompt: Bat, red, echo
Caves are for explorers - and Wilson is not an explorer. He doesn’t do darkness, he doesn’t do dirt, he doesn’t do claustrophobia, and he doesn’t do uncertainty.
House calls him a baby and buys tickets for the easiest guided tour, as if there aren’t any other reasons why.
When the bat tears away from its perch above him, its screams echoing off the walls, Wilson doesn’t need proper vision to see red as his body lurches with adrenaline and his right knee hits the rocks. Embarrassed, he ignores the rest of the group’s worried stares, using House’s cane to help himself up.
Maybe it’s the shock, but finding comfort in the rhythm of their now-matching strides doesn’t feel as wrong as it should.
