Giving up on Yupapa

Can anyone recommend a good shared web hosting company?

I need:
  • PHP 5.2
  • MySQL 5
  • 2 GB of storage
  • Under $10/month
  • 3 hosted domains

I honestly don't know what mine offers, but they're pretty damn cool.

That's also where I'm at.

A few years ago I wouldn't even consider them, but they're looking pretty good right now.

I opted for Hostgator and I've been pleased enough with them so far. I did consider dreamhost at the time as well.

I wanted it primarily to host a gallary installation so I can start to migrate away from Picasa. I'm having my own issues with that, but the hosting works as well as I'd want it to.

I've had a very bad experience with HostGator. I signed up with them a few years ago only to find that they had engaged in false advertising.

In what way?

They had press releases and information on their site that stated that their hosting plans included MySQL 5. I signed up and they gave me MySQL 4 (which wouldn't work with my site). I asked them to change me over to the MySQL 5 servers and they told me that it wasn't available to my plan. I pointed out the info on their site and press releases and they told me their site didn't say that, and they're "not responsible for information posted on other sites." Luckily I took screenshots of their site before they changed it. Despite all of that, they still wouldn't honor it and I cancelled my account.

Adding insult to injury, I had to repeatedly make billing support requests just to get them to honor their refund policy.

I think LunarPages will give you everything there but SSH.

They do, but it's an extra $2.00/mo.

I've used Bluehost reliably for quite some time. Think they have everything you're looking for.

Wow. They're pretty awesome. I have one project which I'm tempted to host elsewhere and pay for it and they might be a great candidate.

I've had good luck with them.

Ugh. They look great, but not being able to set the web root is such a bitch. Sending their sales support an email asking if I'll be able to change it.

I double checked dreamhost for you.
1) Has everything you NEED right now (presuming you pay 1 year upfront)
2) Didn't give any details as to your wants
3) Currently offering a special for unlimited transfer/unlimited storage.

I checked their wiki and it appears they have everything. I also checked their demo admin tool and the site setup is nice and flexible (which is what drove me away from Bluehost).

Only thing left is to look for some recent reviews. Dreamhost has had many issues in the past, but they seem to have their shit together now.

I've had them for 2 years, no problems. And I don't recall them even going down.
