Does Obama's auto taskforce have a car dealer enemies list?

The evidence is still being studied, but some of the initial indications are very disturbing that Obama's administration pressured Chrysler in choosing dealerships to close to focus mainly on dealers who were heavy donors or with close ties to the Republican party. Leave a comment

According to this SNOPES.com article, it is true that the overwhelming majority (92%) of dealerships being closed are Republican. What is neglected is that the overwhelming majority of all dealerships (88%) are Republican. That's a proportional rate of closings, not a biased one.

Although that information shows that numerically Republicans should be at least 88% of the closings, it doesn't explain why so many very successful dealerships owned by Republicans and with very close ties to major Republican figures are being closed in lieue of much less successful dealerships; or why in some cases the dealerships being closed are major competitors of dealerships owned by or with close connections to major Democratic figures and Obama fundraisers.

So it makes the point that the closings should affect significantly more Republicans, but it doesn't explain what appears to be political witch-hunting in some of these cases. So, it still leaves the question of whether there is an "enemies list" in the Obama administration.

a side note: the aforementioned site is not actually on the Snopes web site, but I found it using Snopes. It's actually part of fivethirtyeight.com
