I vividly remember the dread I felt when Kyle and his step-brothers were small and heavy snow was predicted. Ilya is a charming young man, but Good Luck!

I heard it was gonna be hella bad down there. And I'd forgotten that the municipalities aren't really equipped or experienced enough for that kind of thing. Yes, there's a big difference between 3' of snow in Rochester (ho hum, so did you see Scrubs last night?) and 3' of snow in Chesapeake (We're gonna DIE!!!)

Yikes.

Well, it doesn't look so bad in dawn's early light - I'm guessing 15 inches so far, and they actually plowed our road sometime in the wee hours, so it looks like there's only a couple of inches on the road.

I think at this point in this particular winter, they've got the equipment to dig us out pretty fast, but the problem is that everybody's snow removal budgets were all but shot after the big snow we had in December. It's a pretty sucky year for state and local budgets as it is, so if we get two once-a-decade-or-more snowstorms in the same winter, plus several run-of-the-mill snows in the 2-8 inch range, they don't have the money left over to pay the plow operators to run the plows 'round the clock and try to keep up with the snow as it falls. So I'm pleasantly surprised that a plow has been down my street already.

I think maybe Ilya and I will try to build an igloo today!
