My mother went to the hospital with a burst appendix. She was lucky and the appendix abscessed in such a way that it kept it from blowing refuse into her internal organs. She only needed laparoscopic surgery. I spent from Friday till Monday evening helping her out. I cooked, cleaned, helped her get about and took her to the doctor. I think the part

She's really lucky, thats pretty serious business when the appendix bursts.
I recommend calling on the same day every week and it will become part of your routine (I too have the weekly call agreement with my mother).
