The American dollar used to be based on gold (you could take take a dollar bill of any denomination into the bank at any time and demand to be paid in gold). This was called the 'Gold Standard'. You can no longer do this because one of our presidents removed the law that made it so. When they say 'Follow The Yellow Brick Road' in the movie, they are talking about the 'Gold Standard'. The whole movie is about American politics and economics. Anyway, it is so ingeniously done that people still watch it today (both children and adults) and most of them don't even know what it is really about.
Did they show this or have the book in the USSR? It's old, but it is very capitalist... LOL
