Joanna Newsom

bironic  was looking for musical suggestions, so I thought I'd post some Joanna Newsom for posterity. Joanna Newsom has a rather eclectic style, but she grows on you. Or at least, she did me, although judging by youtube, public opinion is split.

I have downloaded for listening! Thanks. The Decemberists cover sounds promising, too.

So I've only just sat down to listen, and have only made it through the first two tracks, but wow, "Emily" is kind of spectacular, isn't it?

The way she uses language just floors me. A lot of the time, I'm like "I have no idea what that means; I just know that it's awesome." Plus her voice is so compelling, unlike any other singer I can think of.

"Emily" turned out my favorite of the bunch, but the Beanstalk one was great, too -- and the one the Decemberists covered sounded like she was covering the Decemberists, it was so perfect for them. Yet also wonderful when she sang it -- more like poetry and less like obscure-word cleverness.
