A whole bunch of Meryl Movies coming at you today. One got her an Oscar nomination and the other two let her be as funny as she wants.

the bridges of madison county
cast: meryl streep, clint eastwood
what imdb says: Photographer Robert Kincaid wanders into the life of housewife Francesca Johnson, for four days in the 1960s

  1. Starting off with the Oscar nod, Bridges packs a punch. Clint and Meryl have tremendous chemistry and by the end of the movie you just want her to stay with him forever. It does it’s job.
  2. Another movie with a perfect accent by the lovely Miss Streep. The darker hair certainly helps too, she’s completely transformed into Francesca and you never doubt it.
  3. Although I understand how the story was told through the children and her letters I didn’t like the frequent cuts back to them, and found myself very unsympathetic to their “plights.”
  4. The scene in the truck, heartwrenching.
  5. Loved how sarcastic and sometimes pretty funny Meryl was, even in the midst of some pretty serious drama
  6. Finally, everything Francesca says about life and building a family, absolutely true. Which makes it harder and harder to root for her love story with Robert. Good job movie.

the manchurian candidate
cast: denzel washington, liev schrieber, meryl streep
what imdb says:In the midst of the Gulf War, soldiers are kidnapped and brainwashed for sinister purposes.

  1. This movie was completely insane, and now I have the very strong urge to see the original.
  2. All the acting was insane. Denzel is amazing, Liev is amazing, Meryl is amazing.
  3. I had no idea where they were going with the whole plot, besides that they were brainwashed, and then I was completely blown away. It was a pretty epic twist on Meryl’s behalf.
  4. Speaking of, Meryl was tremendously funny, as usual. When they let her crack a joke, she always nails it.
  5. The movie is sort of mindblowingly terrifying. Jeffery Wrights character is very convincing and sort of creepy until you realize the deeper creepy that goes on in the government. Plots that revolve around that much paranoia are always fantastic though. I loved this movie ☺

defending your life
cast: albert brooks, meryl streep
what imdb says:In an afterlife resembling the present-day US, people must prove their worth by showing in court how they have demonstrated courage.

  1. One more lighthearted jaunt to Meryl-ville and I’ll be done for the day ☺
  2. This movie is adorable. Absolutely 100% adorable. I’d seen pieces of it when I was younger, but as I’m always working my way through filmographies, I felt like I should see it again to iron out what I’d forgotten. I remembered it was hilarious, and I’m glad I remembered that part correctly.
  3. I love the idea of the whole movie, that there’s a place where you go and they firmly decide what to do with you after you die. I’d look at it like Meryl’s character does. Food and never gaining any weight and doing whatever you want for four days? Good enough for me!
  4. It also sends the lovely message to just do what you can when you are alive and not to be afraid of what’s going to happen at every turn. Be chill people!
  5. It's great to see Meryl in light-hearted, romantic comedy movies. It makes me so look forward to The Untitled Nancy Meyer's Project

In the immortal words of Miranda Priestly, “That’s all.”
