cast: sally hawkins
what imdb says: A look at a few chapters in the life of Poppy, a cheery, colorful, North London schoolteacher whose optimism tends to exasperate those around her.

  1. Honestly, this movie had a lot of good buzz on it too. I've been so suckered into watching the movies that won people stuff or were nominated or should have been nominated. This movie should have been nominated for sure. Sally Hawkins is marvelous. The movie was absolutely adorable, but also had it's bits of seriousness that were perfectly in tune.
  2. I can easily see how someone like Poppy could become highly irritating to some people, but I found her wildly amusing and charming. There should be more people with positive attitudes in this world. Although Poppy's unyielding optimism does put her in near danger sometimes, it's still a wonderful attribute to have. And especially through the "dark months of oscar" aka the months of dark nazi filled dramas, this was a wonderful cheery piece. There needs to be more of those in the dark winter months of oscar doom and gloom. I'm just upset I didn't see this in theaters.
  3. Sally is a standout. This performance was totally deserving of all the nominations and accolades and acclaim it earned her. I'm so glad she won that golden globe, and after seeing the movie and seeing how endearing she is in real life, I just want her to be in more things that I can watch
  4. All the characters were very interesting and very unique. It wasn't as if it was all about Poppy and everyone else just had general personalities that blended together and made it hard to distinguish them. They all had things that set them apart and made them memorable. I loved all of her friends and her brother in law. Good times movie, good times.
  5. I don't know how cohesive it was though. I know it was supposed to be scenes from her life, but I wanted more of a flowing plot line that had a purpose. It sort of drifted around a lot. Although it did all tie together well in the end, and I really did love it a lot.
  6. Because of this movie, whenever I'm in a car I think about the footwear I have on. God knows it's impossible to drive in boots but apparently flats are alright. That makes me feel better :)
