House stood in front of the bathroom mirror, frowning at his reflection as he attempted to knot his necktie into some kind of neat looking knot. This was his fourth attempt and he was getting annoyed on top of already feeling agitated from nerves. Stupid that he was feeling nervous about having dinner with Cuddy because it was Cuddy he was having ( Read more... )

Cuddy twisted one way and then the other in front of the mirror, trying to see her dress from every angle. It was a simple, sleeveless sheath of black silk. The neckline, front and back, was relatively modest compared to some of the things she wore. The hemline, too, falling at just a couple of inches above her knees. But the way the silk draped over her curves and whispered over her skin as she moved...it certainly felt sinful ( ... )

House was busy fiddling with his tie, wondering if he should take the damn thing off again, when the door opened. He snapped his head up in alarm, then quickly, inwardly scolded himself for being so jumpy. His eyes then landed on the dress Cuddy was wearing and for a moment he was distracted from his nerves, by how gorgeous she looked. He raised his brows, a little taken aback by how she looked, though quickly returned attentiveness when he realised Cuddy was staring at him ( ... )

"Thank you." Her smile turned somewhat rueful upon seeing just how uncomfortable House looked. His longing look in her room didn't go unnoticed either and she almost relented. Almost, but she really did want to get out of the room and have a normal, social dining experience. She decided that he'd survive one dinner. If he'd give it a chance, he might even enjoy it.

"Here, maybe this will help you relax," she said as she handed him his pill. She turned away to close and lock her door while he took it. When she turned back to him, he was still looking stiff and uncomfortable. She reached up and loosened his tie just a little bit. Whether he believed it or not he did look look very good in a suit from a physical point of view. But the buttoned up to the point of choking look didn't suit him psychologically.

It was almost reassuring, in a strange way. House usually didn't care what anybody thought about him. He didn't care how he looked or how he acted and the fact that he was trying to do this right made her feel good. Special, even ( ... )

House was grateful to see his pill offered to him. With that, though, came slight resentment that Cuddy was still controlling his meds because the hotel still hadn't replenished his supply of Vicodin. He took the pill without a word and threw it back greedily, sucking his cheeks in at the bitter aftertaste the pill left in his mouth. He looked down at Cuddy when she turned back to face him, then dropped his eyes to her hand loosening his tie. He felt so... self-conscious in this suit. He liked to stand out but not with his looks. There was nothing about his looks to stand out, as far as he was concerned. Nothing particularly good, anyway. Cuddy noticing his unease enough to want to loosen his tie didn't help matters ( ... )
