A really crappy form of it? I'm not sure. This is the first anyone has mentioned that word to me. I had to look it up. I'm sure a lot of people experience things like that every now and then. This one was just really unpleasant and impossible to act normally during when I pride myself on being able to look like nothing is going on.

My science powers give me longwordage. It does sound like synaesthesia, a sort of wire-crossing in the brain where you mix up sensory input, as you apparently just did, you can taste sights. I've had it happen to me occasionally (I've "seen" sounds as colours in front of me) but never that unpleasant. It is quite disorientating when it does happen, apparently. It happens quite a lot with organic brain syndromes or in old people's homes.
