Nothing will kill a mesquite tree. Corollary: Whoever got the bright idea to turn mesquite wood into a status item for people who grill probably made a fortune!
"Sweetened ice tea" is appropriate for all meals, and you start drinking it when you are two. Except that sweet tea is NOT the default in Texas. Ask for it here, and normally you get back, "All we have is regular."
You measure distance in minutes or hours. Hell, I did that before I moved here! Anyone who does a lot of distance driving, for whatever reason, will develop that habit.
Stores don't have bags. They have sacks. True! Listen to Russ & me working the same table for a while. My standard question is, "Do you need a bag?" His is, "Would you like a sack?"
You see cars with the engine running in the Wal-mart parking lot with no one in them, no matter what time of the year. Only in the backwoods. In the city, you'll come back out and that car will be GONE. I suspect the same holds true in non-Texas areas as well.

You only have four spices in your kitchen: Salt, Pepper, Ketchup, and Tabasco.
Most Texans would shoot ya if you put Ketchup and anything other than french fries. The statement above should also include Mustard.
