i'm starting to get sick. i went this entire winter on chemotherapy, which destroys your immune system, and didnt get a single cold. now that i'm done with treatment, i get one. how much sense does that make? i'm afraid it will be hard to shake off though because my immune system definitely still hasnt recovered, as my blood counts show from my ( Read more... )

I've been listening to alot of Grateful Dead. They just make me happy!!

I hope your cold doesn't turn into anything super nasty. I HATE when I get coughs, they make my stomach ache :(

i've been listening to new (and some old) NIN on repeat since the album leak last week.

as for fun debate questions, ponder this hypothetical:

you are in a parking garage. yousee a sketchy-looking couple in their mid-twenties holding a toddler who can't be older than 2, at most. they're leaning against a rusted hatchback that you can only assume is their car. the "parents" have greasy, unkempt hair, torn and stained clothes, and a general demeanor that makes you uneasy. you look over briefly to see the "father" with a syringe in his hand, injecting something into the toddler's arm. the toddler is not resisting or showing any resistance, other than a brief flinch from the pain of the needle.

do you tell someone? whom do you tell? why? why not?

to me, my first thought would be insulin because of the pharmacy work i do. i'd probably try and keep an eye/ear out without them realizing - one clue might be that the child didnt resist, making me think he was used to it. if he was diabetic, he'd be used to taking injections on a daily basis. their appearance could have nothing to do with it - they could even be so down-at-the-heels-looking trying to pay for his medical care, who knows? i would still be a bit sketched out though and might mention it to the parking garage attendant or something, although i would explain it clearly enough that the attendant didnt immediately flip & call police. although it might be weird and unusual, i'd hate to assume the worst just because of appearances, and cause trouble for someone trying to help their child stay healthy.

that's the way i'd choose to view it, anyway. i like to try and find the positive...

what would YOU do, out of curiosity?

hmm. i'd probably try and make polite, innocuous conversation, something like,

"oh, you have a diabetic kid, too? my brother has one and it's real challenge..." etc.

If they react to that poorly, I'd tell someone.

oh my god, yeah i did, in the end of march. they were amazing! it was one of the best shows i've ever been to. and considering how morose and sad and dark-toned most of their music and songs are, i was surprised at how hilarious they are on stage! i loved how colin bantered with the crowd. ahhh what a good show....i'm glad you enjoyed the one you went to, also!

yeah, colin has great stage presence, and I was worried he might seem a bit stand-offish but I was totally surprised. they sounded so great, and their set was beautiful! Did they end with the Mariner's Revenge Song for you too? They had a giant whale with red laser pointer-type eyes and everything, it was amazing. But yours sounded awesome too, plus THE AVALON. I miss that venue so much!

they actually ended with sons & daughters, they did the mariner's revenge song [complete with whale & all!] just before that. they only did the one song as the encore cos i guess they got in trouble for running over the time limit the night before....i KNEW i should have gone to both nights! haha. and yes, the avalon, oh my love <3

i do like the mirah song! its odd but its nice and its pretty. and dont feel bad little puppy, i wasnt feeling very ill at all when i was talking to you. i just had a little bit of a tickle then - it turned into full blown nasty cold-ness really really quickly in the evening.

as for the snow? take a look at this. see the very tippy top-most northeastern state marked ME? that's maine. it's cold FOREVER here. summer is like two months long, we're nearly a part of canada. brrrr.

Thanks. I think of you often too. Things are going well, some wild weather, but otherwise, boring as all hell. I guess you really can't complain about something like that though. I'll try and post some pictures, one of these days.
