Okay, so, right. Take notice of the icon before reading this post. Seriously, it's taking every ounce of self-control I have not to write this in ALL CAPS.
So, as most of you know I'm at Comic Con this weekend (and it is KICK AWESOME, btw). I'm planning on doing a huge write-up when it's all over but I HAD to write this up now. This afternoon was the Infinite Digressions panel... and ZOMG.
The panel ended about an hour ago, and I seriously just had to leave to write this up because OMG. So here's my report early - I was quite near the back so I didn't get great shots; I'm sure there'll be loads of photos and vids and stuff from the people who were closer to the front, but I just HAD to share what happened, because I've never seen anything like it.
Anyway, you guys know that my fave character on ID is Aurelia, and so I was totally stoked about meeting Penny Forbes for the first time. I've seen her in interviews and everything, and she is so awesome, and I was so excited when the ID panel was announced and she was on it.
So yeah, she was there, along with Brian Tucker, Freddy Horne, Hal Petrie and Isla Miguel, and the producers Joanie Keller and Zane Baxter. And they were all really great, and really friendly together and they obviously all get on really well, which totally comes across in the show IMO, and Penny was soooo sweet- she was really nervous about being at Comic Con, because her friends all come to it every year and she - and this a direct quote - 'wants to make them proud'. DAAWW!
Anyway, I've only got some pretty grainy pics of the panel and they're all awful, but I'll put up the one of Penny, because she looked really cute - she was wearing this super pretty flower barrette in her hair - I want one!!
My friend Sylvie was really near the front and she managed to get all of the goods on tape, and she's given me permission to upload it all and share with you here (she's run off to the Fringe panel). I've put it on youtube and the link's at the bottom of the page if you want to just watch, but since I know a lot of my fellow ID fans will be at work right now, I'll describe what happened as well so you can join in the SQUEE.
Okay, so they were announced and came in and sat down, and then Joanie and Zane thanked everyone for watching etc etc, you know, like what always happens. They opened it up to questions, and people started off talking about the show - the Bethany/Thompson shippers were there in force, and so the first few questions were for Freddy and Isla, and they hinted that a Bethson hook-up might be on the cards for next season (yay!!) Then someone asked Brian about how he used to be on Broadway, and he started talking about stage fright, and then Hal jumped in to say that Penny had been really nervous before they'd come on - and that's when Penny said the thing about wanting to make her friends proud. :D
Then someone asked Penny about the Cheesecake Factory coz she used to work there, and she said she couldn't eat cheesecake anymore after working there and it was really funny oooh and THEN she told about this joke she played on Freddy with a remote control car that can be worked via the Internet, that her boyfriend and his friends made or configured or something, and she chased Freddy with the car and he couldn't figure out who was doing it coz she was on a laptop and didn't have a normal controller - and then Freddy and Brian started talking about how Penny is an evil genius LOL! She is so AWESOME!
Anyway, then someone asked if her boyfriend - who she'd said earlier was a nerd - liked the show and if she was into sci-fi, and she said that her boyfriend and her friends were really into ID and asked her loads of technical questions all the time, and she had to keep reminding them that she wasn't actually Aurelia LOL! Then she said her BF is a physicist and super-smart and that she always got him to explain the science stuff to her so she knew what she was talking about. Then she said that she was into Doctor Who and Star Trek and Firefly, and then she got all excited about the new Firefly movie and everyone clapped. Seriously, my love for her grew like a ridiculous amount just from her getting excited over Firefly. :D:D:D:D
Okay, so then there was some stuff about the show again, mainly for Zane and Joanie, and then - and this is the AWESOME part - there was another question for Penny.
So this guy dressed like Spock goes up to mic and says he has a question for Penny, and she says (I'm seriously transcribing this from the vid)
Penny: Well hey there, Spock. Shouldn't you be at the Star Trek panel?
Spock: I was. But then Leonard Nimoy arrived as a special guest on the panel, and it reminded me of you. I have a question for you, if I may.
Penny: Shoot.
Spock: Will you marry me?
Penny's face was priceless, seriously, and everyone started laughing, including me, coz you would, right? But then I noticed all the other panellists were looking totally shocked as well, and then Brian said to us, and I quote: "Okay, you guys are laughing, but this is Sheldon - he's Penny's boyfriend."
Seriously, the whole room went totally quiet - you can hear on the video. Everyone stopped laughing and talking, and then everyone stood up to see better. Penny was just staring at Spock - Sheldon - and I swear it was like she forgot everyone else was in the room.
Then she asked him if her was serious, and he said (I'm gonna quote again coz it was quite funny and really sweet!):
Sheldon: Yes. I would get down on one knee, but the microphone is too tall and the acoustics of this room are -
Penny: Yes! Yes, of course I will!!
And the entire room EXPLODED. I mean EXPLODED.
It was just the SWEETEST, MOST AMAZING - YOU KNOW WHAT, SCREW NOT WRITING IN ALL CAPS!!!
PENNY JUMPED UP AND RAN ROUND THE TABLE AND LIKE THREW HERSELF AT SHELDON AND THEY HUGGED FOR AGES AND I DIDN'T SEE THIS PART COZ THERE WERE TOO MANY PEOPLE IN FRONT OF ME JUMPING UP AND DOWN BUT YOU CAN SEE IT ON THE VIDEO - HE GIVES HER A RING. YOU CAN'T HEAR WHAT THEY'RE SAYING BUT THEY'RE BOTH GRINNING LIKE IDIOTS AND THEN THEY KISSED, AND EVERYONE WAS CLAPPING AND I WAS CRYING AND OH. MY. GOD. SERIOUSLY. I STILL CAN'T BELIEVE IT!!!!!!!!
SO THEN SHELDON LEFT, AND PENNY WENT AND SAT BACK DOWN AND SHE COULDN'T EVEN SPEAK AND SHE COULDN'T STOP GRINNING AND ISLA AND BRIAN WERE FUSSING OVER HER RING AND IT WAS JUST THE SWEETEST THING EVER!!!
ANYWAY, THEN PENNY CALMED DOWN A BIT AND SAID THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO FIND SOME WAY TO TOP THIS NEXT YEAR, AND SHE SAID MAYBE THEY'D GET MARRIED AT COMIC CON, AND EVERYONE CHEERED, AND THEN SHE WAS ALL "OH I SO SHOULDN'T HAVE SAID THAT" AND SHE LOOKED RIGHT INTO SYLVIE'S CAMERA - SERIOUSLY, RIGHT INTO IT!!! - AND SAID "SHELDON NO - WE'RE NOT GETTING MARRIED AT COMIC CON!"
SO THEN ZANE WAS ALL "I THINK THERE'S ONLY ONE THING WE WANT TO TALK ABOUT NOW" LOL AND PENNY TOLD US HOW SHELDON TOTALLY LOVES SPOCK AND SHE GAVE HIM A SIGNED NAPKIN FOR CHRISTMAS A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO AND HE TOLD HER THAT'S WHEN HE FIRST STARTED TO FALL IN LOVE WITH HER AND THAT'S WHY LEONARD NIMOY REMINDS HIM OF PENNY - HOW SWEET IS THAT!!!!!!
THEN IT WAS ALMOST OVER SO THEY SHOWED A PREVIEW OF THE NEXT SEASON - ALL KINDS OF FREAKING AWESOME, BTW - AND THEN IT WAS AUTOGRAPHS. I DIDN'T GET THERE IN TIME BUT I'M STILL SO STOKED BY WHAT HAPPENED THAT I'M NOT EVEN THAT UPSET.
PENNY FORBES JUST GOT ENGAGED RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME. OMFG. I'VE NEVER FLAILED SO MUCH IN MY LIFE. I THINK I'M GETTING FLAILER ELBOW.
