Has anyone ever read Middlemarch by George Elliot? It was recommended to me by a very dear professor, but I can't seem to get into it. My thought/hope is that maybe someone had read it and could tell me if it picks up soon or drags continually. Thanks!

reaaaad it! it does take a while to get into, but it is an excellent book. I can't say that I love it as dearly as say, Pride and Prejudice, but it's an amazing novel and it's so fantastic to have a female perspective on life in that time period. . .and yes. you definitely must persevere :) did Judy recommend it? I read it in her Novel to WWII class, my second favorite class after Shakespeare!

yes, Judy recommended it to me. it's her all-time favorite. . . next to Woman Warrior by Maxine Hong Kingston.
